At the III Festival of Slavic Literature in Slovakia they presented Russian-Slovak edition “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign”

On September 24, 2023, the III book festival “Library “Slavica 2023” took place in the Slavic Court of Slavica (the village of Aleksince, near the city of Nitra, Slovakia). The exhibition featured books by Slovak publishers and authors, including the outstanding ancient Russian work “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign.”

The book was published in Slovak and Russian with the support of the European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture. The Old Russian text was translated into Slovak by the famous Slovak writer, translator and specialist in the field of the Russian language Jaroslav Reznik. Illustrations of extraordinary beauty, reminiscent of the paintings of ancient Russian boxes, were created by the Slovak artist Milina Zimkova. The artist managed to convey the drama of the plot; she used colors that are mentioned in the text itself: the red banner, crimson shields, bloody dawns, blue lightning, fiery arrows. In addition, the book contains an analysis of the work by the outstanding Russian philologist Dmitry Likhachev.

The event was attended by Elena Prekopova, Vice-President of the European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture. She noted the uniqueness of the festival, its enormous significance in the cultural and linguistic rapprochement of Slavic peoples.
