Open lesson at the Russian Center for students of boarding school

On the 26th of March 2019, an open lesson on Russian literature and contemporary art was held at the Russian Center of the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture in Bratislava.

Students came from several secondary vocational schools that study the skills of various professions, including industrial design, information technology, medicine, etc. Students came to study in Bratislava from various cities of Slovakia and currently live in boarding school at Ivanska Cesta Street. The boarding school is located not far from the Russian center and not for the first time students come for a visit.

The first part of the lesson was devoted to Russian literature, the study of which is included in the curriculum of the course on world literature. The works of the most famous Russian classics:  A.S. Pushkin, M.Y. Lermontov, F.M. Dostoevsky, N.V. Gogol, I.S. Turgenev, A.P. Chekhov, L.N. Tolstoy were briefly presented.

Each student could familiarize himself with books about these writers from the library center of the Russian Center from the series of books “Life of Remarkable People”. There were also presented books with the works of these authors.

The lecture was held in conversational mode. Students answered questions and then prepared their own questions. What films and performances of Russian authors were shown in Slovakia? What works are translated into Slovak? Which Russian writer has a connection with a Slovak scholar and writer? These and many other questions helped to bring Russian literature closer and to see the interrelationship of cultures and traditions.

The second part of the lesson was devoted to contemporary art. Students got acquainted with the life and works of the famous Slovak artist Adolf Benz. In the halls of the gallery, they looked at the exhibition of works by this artist, which presented his paintings, works of art and painted pieces of furniture.
