4 April 2024 - 79th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava by the Red Army

On 4 April 2024, Slovakia celebrated the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava by the Red Army.

A ceremony honouring the memory of the liberators took place on the territory of the Slavin War Memorial Complex, where 6,845 Red Army soldiers are buried. The event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico, members of the Government, members of the Parliament of the Republic, employees of the embassies of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, public organizations and local residents.


215th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol

April 1, 2024 marks the 215th anniversary of the birth of the most mystical classics of Russian literature, writer, playwright, essayist and literary critic – Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol.

Even now, little is known about his life and creative journey, despite many attempts to uncover them. Nonetheless, his works still draw in readers, as shown by the rising number of reprints and adaptations.

The Easter Celebration in Slovakia

From 29 March to 1 April, Slovakia celebrated the Easter holidays. Easter (Veľká noc) is one of the favourite religious holidays in Slovakia.

The Catholic Easter has many similarities with the Orthodox Easter, but there are also differences. Similarly, to the Orthodox, Catholics in Slovakia prepare for the holiday in advance.  

The XIV International Competition "What's in my name for you?" dedicated to A. S. Pushkin

The XIV International Competition What's in my name for you?, which is dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of A. S. Pushkin, starts on 11 March 2024.

Everyone can take part: children and adults, native speakers, as well as students of Russian as a foreign language.

A creative gathering with the author of "My igraem" Olga Goch took place in Bratislava.

On 18 March 2024, students and teachers met with the writer Olga Goch at the Private Slovak-Russian Primary School in Bratislava.

Olga Goch is a public figure and the author of the books in Russian and Slovak "My igraem" (EN: "We play") and "Sladkaja jagoda" (EN: "Sweet berries"). 

The Exhibition “The Light of Yasnaya Polyana” Introduced Slovak Students of Matej Bel University to the History of Leo Tolstoy's Estate Museum

On March 15, 2024, a banner exhibition "The Light of Yasnaya Polyana," dedicated to the history of the estate museum of L. N. Tolstoy, "Yasnaya Polyana," concluded at the Department of Slavic Languages of the Faculty of Arts at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica.

From March 4th to 15th, 2024, the exhibition was visited by university students and educators.
