The regional rounds of the “Russian Word” contest continue to take place in Slovakia. This year’s theme, “Calendar Holidays,” has added vibrant colors to events dedicated to Russian culture. The contest is held in schools and gymnasiums that offer Russian language studies across the country and attracts a large number of participants.
The competition is divided into two categories: one for Russian-speaking students and another for Slovaks learning Russian. In 2025, participants showcase their skills in three categories—prose, poetry, and singing. This provides them with an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and deep knowledge of the Russian language and culture.

The Bratislava regional round, which took place on January 24 at the Russian House in Bratislava, brought together 25 participants from five schools. Contest coordinator Inna Horvátová noted a significant improvement in performance levels compared to previous years. The participants impressed the audience not only with their mastery of the Russian language but also with musical performances, including piano pieces.
As tradition dictates, the event was complemented by a Christmas exhibition prepared by the Russian House, creating a true festive atmosphere. The winners were awarded diplomas, books, and sweet treats.
The best readers and singers will represent the Bratislava region at the All-Slovak “Russian Word” contest, which will be held in Kosice. We are confident that this competition will play a vital role in preserving and promoting Russian culture among Slovak youth.
The Bratislava round was supported by the European Fund of Slavic Literacy and Culture.
