European Day of Languages in Slovakia

People in Europe celebrate the European Day of Languages every year on 26 September since 2001. The main aim of this event is to encourage Europeans to learn foreign languages, regardless of their age or life situation.

Thousands of different themed events are organised on this day for different groups of people. Slovakia, like all European countries, will celebrate this day in 2023 under the slogan "Say YES to languages!". The events are traditionally held in various educational institutions and libraries.

For example, in Košice at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, around three hundred pupils and students tested their language skills by familiarising themselves with the works of J. K. Rowling in the Harry Potter series. The stories about the young wizard belong among the most translated works of children's literature. Spells in English, French and Serbian clearly enchanted the students and their teachers, while the atmosphere of magic and witchcraft was completed by the theatrical accompaniment of the event. The participants tested their knowledge of foreign languages by taking part in "science and witchcraft" quizzes and pantomime.

Dear friends, we wish you a wonderful European Day of Languages, which plays such an important role in today's multicultural world!
