Knowledge Day in Slovakia

The sound of the school bell, big white bows, bouquets of flowers and loud music coming from every schoolyard are traditional attributes of Knowledge Day, which is celebrated on 1 September. This holiday is associated with the return of students to the classrooms after the summer holidays. For some of them, this day is the beginning of a new path, for others is the continuation of a long journey in the world of knowledge, and for graduates is the final chapter of school life.

In 2023, classes in Slovak schools started on Monday, 4 September. The President of the Slovak Republic,   Zuzana Čaputova, attended the opening ceremony of the new school year at a school in Bratislava. She congratulated the students, thanked the teachers and wished them much luck and patience. At the Primary School in Brezova pod Bradlom, the school year was opened by the Minister of Education Daniel Bútora and the Minister of the Foreign Affairs Miroslav Vlachovský. In a festive atmosphere, the school was named after Štefan Osuský, a Slovak diplomat and native of the town.

May this day be full of bright emotions and impressions, and may the acquired knowledge accompany us on the path to success.
