The European Slavic Literature and Culture Foundation continues its commemorative efforts and partnership with Slovak historical researchers and recovery volunteers, dedicated to preserving historical memory and uncovering the fates of Soviet soldiers who fell during the liberation of the country.
On October 21, 2026, the Foundation hosted another working meeting attended by Slovak field researcher Roman Kruty and compatriot Elena Shatalova, who resides in Slovakia.
The central focus of the discussion was the search for the remains of Soviet military aviator Lieutenant Aleksandr Grigoryevich Grigoryev, whose aircraft was shot down over Slovakia on April 2, 1945, while escorting ground-attack aircraft en route to Mount Perník.
The participants evaluated prospects for further search operations and ongoing cooperation to reconstruct the precise circumstances surrounding the pilot's final mission and demise.
Honoring the fallen and restoring their identities and life stories remain integral components of the work carried out by the European Slavic Literature and Culture Foundation.
