July 5 — Saints Cyril and Methodius Day

On July 5, the Slovak Republic celebrates Saints Cyril and Methodius Day, a national holiday dedicated to the memory of the great enlighteners whose legacy has become an integral part of the spiritual and cultural history of the Slavic peoples.

The mission of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who brought writing, education, and worship in the native language to the Slavic lands, had a profound impact on the development of culture, education, and national identity. Their work laid a solid foundation for preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage, promoting education, strengthening spiritual values, and fostering mutual understanding among nations.

For the European Foundation of Slavic Literacy and Culture and the Russian Center, this holiday holds special significance. Our activities are aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Slavic peoples, supporting the Russian language, implementing educational and cultural projects, developing humanitarian cooperation, and strengthening intercultural dialogue.

Today, just as more than a thousand years ago, education, culture, respect for historical roots, and spiritual traditions remain essential values that unite people of different generations and countries.

For Slovakia, Saints Cyril and Methodius Day is not only a national holiday but also a symbol of faithfulness to its historical roots, spiritual heritage, and cultural traditions that continue to unite the Slavic peoples of Europe.

On this festive occasion, we warmly congratulate our friends, partners, project participants, and everyone who is dedicated to preserving, studying, and promoting the rich heritage of Slavic literacy and culture.

We wish you peace, kindness, inspiration, prosperity, and continued success in your educational, cultural, and outreach activities. May the spiritual legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius continue to inspire creativity, mutual respect, fruitful cooperation, and the preservation of our shared cultural values for future generations.
