On July 5, the Slovak Republic celebrates Saints Cyril and Methodius Day — a public holiday dedicated to the memory of the great enlighteners whose legacy has become an integral part of the spiritual and cultural history of the Slavic peoples.
The mission of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who brought literacy, education, and liturgy in the native language to the Slavic lands, exerted a profound influence on the development of culture, enlightenment, and national identity. Their work established a solid foundation for preserving linguistic and cultural heritage, while fostering mutual understanding among nations.
This holiday holds special significance for the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture and the Russian Center. Our activities are dedicated to preserving and promoting Slavic cultural heritage, supporting the Russian language, implementing educational and cultural projects, and advancing humanitarian cooperation and intercultural dialogue.
Today, just as over a thousand years ago, education, culture, and respect for historical roots remain core values that unite people across generations and borders. For Slovakia, Saints Cyril and Methodius Day is not only a public holiday, but also a symbol of fidelity to its historical origins, spiritual traditions, and the cultural heritage that unites the Slavic nations of Europe.
On this festive day, we extend our warmest congratulations to our friends, partners, project participants, and everyone who cherishes, studies, and develops the rich heritage of Slavic literacy and culture.
We wish you peace, goodness, inspiration, well-being, and continued success in your educational and cultural endeavors. May the spiritual legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius continue to inspire creativity, mutual respect, cooperation, and the preservation of our shared cultural values.
