The Russian House at the European Foundation for Slavic Writing and Culture celebrates an important date — the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, observed annually on May 24. This event is particularly resonant with the foundation’s mission.
To mark this occasion, Russian language instructors at the Russian House have organized an exhibition of catalogues and albums showcasing the long-standing work of the center and the foundation in the fields of visual arts and exhibition activities. The foundation actively collaborates with the “Aircraft” gallery, which hosts art exhibitions, cultural and educational events, book presentations, and projects aimed at supporting and promoting the Russian language and literature.
As part of the celebration of the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, a methodological day for Russian language teachers, as well as students of Matej Bel University (Banská Bystrica, Slovakia) studying Russian and undertaking internships at the foundation, will take place on May 29.
Over the past 10 years, the foundation has organized numerous exhibitions at the “Aircraft” gallery dedicated to the works of prominent contemporary artists. Among them, notable figures include Evgeny Romashko — Honored Artist of Russia and academician of the Russian Academy of Arts — and Konstantin Khudyakov — People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and president of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Significant attention at the exhibition is devoted to icon painting. Special mention should be made of the album Russian Icon: From Century to Century, published following one of the gallery’s earliest exhibitions, which became a notable contribution to the preservation and promotion of spiritual and artistic traditions.
The cultural and visual potential of the foundation is actively utilized by Russian language instructors in their educational work — to broaden students’ horizons, enrich their vocabulary, and deepen their knowledge of the Russian language through engagement with art.
