80th Anniversary of Victory in Bratislava: Memory, Gratitude, and Unity

On May 9, 2025, solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany were held in the capital of Slovakia – Bratislava. Celebrations marking this important date took place across the country, bringing together representatives of the diplomatic corps, public organizations, local residents, and guests of Slovakia.

The central event of May 9 was the ceremonial laying of wreaths and flowers at the Slavin memorial complex – the burial site of Soviet soldiers who fell in the battles for the liberation of Bratislava. The ceremony was attended by officials, diplomats, representatives of civil society, and youth organizations. The gathering was addressed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Slovakia, Igor Igorievich Bratchikov, who emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and honoring the liberators’ heroic deeds.

Following the ceremony, a festive concert and the "Immortal Regiment" march took place, where participants carried portraits of their relatives who fought in World War II. This became a vivid expression of popular remembrance and gratitude for the Great Victory.

Representatives of the European Foundation of Slavic Literacy and Culture and Russian language teachers from the Spectrum Language School also actively participated in the commemorative events. On May 7, Foundation representatives attended a reception hosted by the Russian Embassy in Slovakia at the Bôrik Hotel, and on May 9 they were present at the Slavin memorial complex. These meetings served as an important platform for communication, exchange of views, and expressing support for the shared values of peace, friendship, and historical truth.

We express our sincere gratitude to all friends of the Foundation who took part in the celebrations, and especially to those who provided photo materials from the events. This helps preserve the living memory of Victory and pass it on to future generations.
