Day of the Holy Trinity - the most important church holiday for Orthodox believers, as a symbol of the trinity of God

The Holy Trinity is one of the twelve most important dates in the Orthodox world. Its celebration falls on the fiftieth day from Easter - in 2023 this Sunday, June 4th.
HISTORY OF THE HOLIDAY
The reason for celebrating the Day of the Holy Trinity was an event described in the Gospel. It happened in Jerusalem. After the crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Mother of God and the twelve apostles prayed for seven weeks; on the 50th day, as Jesus promised, the Holy Spirit descended upon them. He appeared in the form of a fire that did not burn. After the incident, the apostles had the ability to speak in unknown languages, heal and predict events. All this allowed the disciples of Jesus to carry the Word of God to the peoples of the world. The event that happened proved the essence of God, which is expressed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. You need to understand - this is the essence of a single deity, and not the essence of three gods.
The official status of the date was assigned in 381. The celebration of this event by the Slavs began only at the end of the 13th century.
CELEBRATION TRADITIONS
Celebrate the celebration for 3 days.
Day 1 - Parental Saturday. On this day, it is customary to commemorate the dead, to visit cemeteries.
Day 2 - Sunday. Liturgy is celebrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. At the end of the church service, relatives and friends go to visit each other, give gifts. There are mass celebrations with dances, games and songs.
Day 3 - Monday - Spirits day. In temples and churches, water lighting is carried out. Believers take with them the foliage and branches that served as decoration for the holiday for three days. It is believed that dried greenery protects the house and its residents from grief and disease.
