International conference on the role of the media in the relations between Russia and European countries in Budapest

On the 5th of October 2017, the 6th International Conference "Russia and Europe: Contemporary Problems of Modern Journalism" was held in Budapest. This Conference is annually held in various countries of the world. It took place in Paris, Berlin, Vienna, San Marino and Bratislava, and each time attracted genuine interest and support from journalists, media leaders, diplomats, scientists and political scientists.

The organizer of the Conference was the magazine "International Life" with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Agency of Press and Mass Communications. The Conference program included topical issues of the relationship between European countries and Russia. The conference was opened by the Russian Ambassador in Hungary - Vladimir Sergeev, who welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of maintaining the necessary balance in politics.

In the era of rapid growth of informational and communicational technologies, the media have an important role to play in the overall efforts to improve the situation in Europe and in the World.

Discussions were reised by speeches on the possibility of restarting relations between Russia and Europe, as well as the role of the media in shaping the views of citizens, the revival of neo-Nazism and fake news.

Representatives of the European countries of Austria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Russia took part in the speeches. Maria Mokhovikova, the spokeswoman of the "Russian World" Foundation, presented the fund's informational resources.

The employees of the Russian Center of the European Fund of Slavic Literature and Culture are not the first time invited by the organizers to participate in the Conference. This year they took part in all the discussions, held meetings with journalists from Russia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Speakers came to a common opinion, that for a stable peace on the European continent there are no alternatives to dialogue at various levels. The conference was widely covered in Russian and European media.
