The Triumph of the Slovak Choir from Zilina at the Festival in Moscow

Slovak choir "Young Voices" became the winner of the XIII Moscow International Festival of Slavic music.

Performance in the Great Hall of Moscow State Conservatory on 20.05.2017

One of the highlights of the XIII Moscow International Slavic Music Festival was the arrival in Moscow the choir “Young Voices” of the Higher School of Music from Zilina (Slovakia).

This choir performed at different concert venues: the National Cultural Center of Ukraine in Moscow, the Great Hall of the Conservatory, the Gallery of the Tsereteli of the Russian Academy of Arts, in the School of Arts named after M.A. Balakirev. This highly professional collective literally from the first notes fascinated listeners with an unusually beautiful, clean and harmonious sound and subtle performance.

The choir's wide repertoire made it possible to reveal the richest palette of colors available in the arsenal of their performing skills. The program of the concerts was very diverse and contrasted. The audience literally freezes to the sounds of "Theotokos, Virgin, rejoice!" of S. Rachmaninov. At this moment it seems that the soul has ascended and hovers in space… But after that the emotional performance of work "Where have you been?" by the modern author Peter Shpilyak with his assertive strong-willed character brings us back to today's active reality. The monumental Grand "Glory" by E. Irshai adjoins the mischievous incendiary People's "Shchedrik". There were also works by Spanish, Czech, German, Slovak authors. The audience was subdued.

The international jury of the choral competition, headed by the Chairman, Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Head of the Choral Conducting Department of the Moscow Conservatory, Professor S.S. Kalinin was appreciated by the competitive performance of the Slovak chorus, awarded the Grand Prix to this fine creative team and a special prize for professional skill to their talented leader and conductor Stefan Sedlichka.
